1. Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to Ancestral Math Learning Platform ("Platform," "we," "our," or "us"). By accessing or using our Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our Platform.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Ancestral Math Learning Platform. If you are under 18 years of age, your parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms on your behalf.

2. Description of Service

Ancestral Math Learning Platform is an online educational platform that provides:

Mathematics courses from preschool through advanced calculus
AI-powered tutoring through JOY AI tutor
Interactive lessons, practice problems, and assessments
Video library and educational resources
Progress tracking and analytics
Achievement badges and gamification features
Live study sessions and community features
Culturally relevant content celebrating African mathematical heritage

3. User Accounts and Registration

3.1 Account Creation

To access certain features of the Platform, you must create an account. You agree to:

Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration
Maintain and promptly update your account information
Maintain the security of your password and account
Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account

3.2 Age Requirements

Users under 13 years of age require verifiable parental consent
Users between 13-17 years of age should have parental guidance
Parents and guardians are responsible for monitoring their children's use of the Platform

3.3 Account Types

Student Accounts: For learners accessing courses and content
Parent Accounts: For monitoring student progress and managing settings
Teacher Accounts: For educators managing classes and tracking student performance
Administrator Accounts: For platform management and oversight

4. Acceptable Use Policy

4.1 Permitted Uses

You may use the Platform for:

Personal educational purposes
Teaching and instruction in educational settings
Academic research and study
Legitimate educational collaboration

4.2 Prohibited Uses

You agree NOT to:

Violate any applicable laws or regulations
Infringe upon intellectual property rights
Share your account credentials with others
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Platform or other user accounts
Upload viruses, malware, or malicious code
Harass, bully, or threaten other users
Post inappropriate, offensive, or harmful content
Use the Platform for commercial purposes without authorization
Scrape, data mine, or use automated tools to access content
Reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code
Interfere with or disrupt the Platform's operation
Impersonate others or misrepresent your identity

5. Intellectual Property Rights

5.1 Platform Content

All content on the Platform, including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, images, videos, audio, software, and course materials, is the property of Ancestral Math Learning Platform or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

5.2 Limited License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Platform for personal, non-commercial educational purposes. This license does not include:

Downloading or copying content (except as expressly permitted)
Modifying or creating derivative works
Distributing, selling, or licensing content
Using content for commercial purposes

5.3 User-Generated Content

By submitting content to the Platform (such as forum posts, comments, or shared work), you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, and display such content for the purpose of operating and improving the Platform.

6. Payment and Subscriptions

6.1 Subscription Plans

Ancestral Math offers the following monthly subscription plans (prices in USD):

6.2 Beta Period

During the beta period (ending April 18, 2026), all courses and features are available free of charge. After the beta period ends, continued access requires an active paid subscription. Beta users will receive advance notice before billing begins.

6.3 Billing and Automatic Renewal

All subscriptions are billed monthly on the same calendar day as the original purchase date.
Subscriptions automatically renew each month unless you cancel before the renewal date.
By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on file for each renewal period.
If a payment fails, we will retry up to three times over 7 days before suspending your account.
All charges are processed securely through Stripe. We do not store your full payment card details.

6.4 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time from your Profile → Subscription settings page.
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You retain full access until then.
Cancelling does not delete your account or learning progress.

6.5 Price Changes

We reserve the right to change subscription prices. We will provide at least 30 days' advance notice via email and an in-platform banner before any price increase takes effect. Continuing to use the Platform after the effective date of a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price.

6.6 Referral Program

When you refer a new user who subscribes, both you and the referred user receive 30 days of free access added to your respective accounts. Referral rewards are non-transferable, have no cash value, and cannot be combined with other promotional offers. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the referral program at any time.

6.7 Refund Policy

We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee for new subscribers who have not accessed a significant portion of course content (defined as completing more than 3 lessons or 2 quizzes). To request a refund:

Include your account email and reason for the refund request.
Approved refunds are processed within 5–10 business days to the original payment method.
Refunds are not available for renewals after the initial 14-day window or for accounts that have substantially used the service.

7. Educational Records and FERPA

We comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) where applicable. Educational records are maintained confidentially and shared only with authorized parties as described in our Privacy Policy.

Parents and eligible students have the right to:

Inspect and review educational records
Request corrections to inaccurate records
Control disclosure of personally identifiable information

8. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability

8.1 "As Is" Service

THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

8.2 No Guarantee of Results

While we strive to provide high-quality educational content, we do not guarantee specific academic outcomes, test scores, or educational results. Learning outcomes depend on many factors including student effort, prior knowledge, and individual circumstances.

8.3 Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Ancestral Math Learning Platform, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising from:

Your use of the Platform
Your violation of these Terms
Your violation of any rights of another party
Your user-generated content

10. Termination

10.1 Termination by You

10.2 Termination by Us

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, for:

Violation of these Terms
Fraudulent or illegal activity
Abuse of the Platform or other users
Non-payment of fees
Extended inactivity

10.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination, your right to access the Platform will immediately cease. We may delete your account data in accordance with our data retention policies.

11. Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes by:

Sending an email to your registered email address
Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of these Terms

Your continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
